With the film production scene in Buffalo gaining buzz, we found the next project worth checking out.

“Queen City,” a film by Buffalo native, Peter McGennis was shot entirely here in our hometown at landmark locations including the Hotel Lafayette, the Colored Musicians Club of Buffalo, and Central Terminal.

Taking a look through IMDB, the film’s plot is as follows: “Set in rustbelt Buffalo circa 1980, Queen City follows the gritty struggle of two flawed detectives from both sides of the tracks whose private and public lives cross as they cope with strain in search of redemption and forgiveness.”

An impressive ensemble cast of Grammy winning and nominated talent includes Vivica A. Fox, Susan Tedeschi, Allen Toussaint, Maria Muldaur, James Cotton, Sharon Jones, Average White Band, Magic Slim, Toni Lynn Washington among others.

You can attend the Buffalo premiere of “Queen City” next month when the cast will be in town for a special screening and red-carpet music event. The movie will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 at the UB Center for the Arts Mainstage Theatre. General tickets are available for $27 and $37, while VIP tickets are on sale for $57. After the screening, Soul/funk sensation Sharon Jones, blues legends James Cotton, Toni Lynn Washington, and surprise guests will perform a musical set backed by several of Buffalo’s finest musicians who contributed to the score. This unique film and live music event will mark the first local date of McGennis’ travelling “Rust Belt Revue” to showcase different musical guest performances following Queen City screenings at universities, film festivals, and other unique places of interest.

“Widely regarded as the world’s premier live soul diva, Sharon Jones has gained enormous popularity reviving the essence of ‘60’s sound and early ’70’s funk. James Cotton and Toni Lynn Washington are two of the remaining blues pioneers still performing with passion and strength into their seventies.  Fans will enjoy hearing original songs from Queen City in addition to familiar favorites,” says the UB Center for the Arts.
