Freebie Friday at CoworkBuffalo

blog by Ben Tsujimoto  •

“Working from the road” isn’t an obscure term anymore. Plenty of desk jobs allow employees to meander over to coffee shops or back home for a change of scenery and a reprieve from sitting rigidly in a dusty, dank office. I don’t have to tell you that planting yourself in the same place all day every day is unhealthy.

CoworkBuffalo is an open workspace on the floor above SPoT Coffee at the corner of Chippewa and Delaware, intended for people looking to work away from home. This Friday, it’s free to visit and commandeer the space for the day, so you’ll be able to pass on the usual costs that are listed below:

One-day: $10
One-month: $100
10-day flex: $75

There are discounted rates (email: .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for rates) for small businesses looking for a space to gather, and the Buffalo.com team enjoyed a brief stay for a planning meeting last fall.

In CoworkBuffalo’s FAQ section, the organization’s purpose is quite clear:

More so, it’s for people who get more done by having a place to go, people nearby, and a sense of of being part of a small, smart community.

The two rooms in Suite 10 of 225 Delaware Ave. have all the amenities necessary for a productive day away from home and the office: free and reliable Time Warner Business Class wireless internet, endless coffee, snacks, comfortable chairs, a place to store bicycles, heating and air conditioning, and relative peace and quiet.

You’ll have to bring your own laptop, tablet or smartphone, because those aren’t provided.

Since starting business in May 2012, CoworkBuffalo has remained open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Even in the course of the last four months, significant improvements have been made. Co-founder Kevin Purdy noted that new tables and office chairs were purchased from IKEA, the walls have been adorned with Buffalo-themed decorations and there’s a smarter use of space and light (how “alt” of me, right?).

See the photos sprinkled throughout this post for an idea of what to expect.

CoworkBuffalo fully backs a lot of Buffalo’s progressive initiatives—after all, the site dedicates a navigation bar to aggregating the Twitter feeds of all of Buffalo’s food trucks—so you may stumble across forward-thinking minds on Friday at CoworkBuffalo.

Directions: Facing SPoT on the Delaware side, find the door 10-15 paces away from the coffee shop entrance that reads 225 Delaware Ave., then walk up the stairs and take a left at the top. Turn the corner and the CoworkBuffalo space will be on your right with the sign seen in the header of this post. Happy exploring!
