Fussin’ for Farms: A Big Fuss booms Wednesday

blog by Ben Tsujimoto • October 22, 2012 @ 2:36pm
While healthy competition exists between Buffalo’s top restaurants, so does an impressive level of collaboration.
At 6 p.m. Wednesday at Artisan Kitchens and Baths, 200 Amherst St., Buffalo, A Big Fuss 2.0 takes over Black Rock to support a struggling local farm. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased with cash day-of or by following the National Food Day link.

Seven of our area’s top chefs—Ross Warhol, award-winning head chef of the Athenaeum, chef Steven Gedra from Bistro Europa, Bruce Wieszala from Carmelo’s, James Roberts from Park Country Club, Adam Goetz from Sample, Jim Guarino from Shango and Chris Dorsaneo from Lloyd Taco Truck—will create a dish using locally-sourced ingredients from several participating farms. As you can see from last year’s photo post, the results are drool-inducing.
In 2011, T-Meadow Farms, Painted Meadows, Oles Family Farm and several others housed in the rural outskirts of Western New York came together in support of an unnamed farm in need. Last year, more than two mortgage payments were satisfied by the proceeds from A Big Fuss 1.0, an impressive accomplishment for the fledgling fundraiser.
Community Beer Works, Nickel City Cheese and Mercantile, and nearby Spar’s European Sausage will be on the scene, while DJ Cutler spins house music. If you’re thirsty, a cash bar will be available as well.
A special screening of the film “Downtown Flavor” by Griffin Schultz—a product of the Buffalo Youth Media Institute—is also on the slate. Here’s the quick description of the roughly nine-minute film, courtesy of Squeaky.org:
Buffalo, New York was once one of the greatest, most beloved, and well recognized cities of America because she was a monopoly of grain and steel, the western terminus of the Erie Canal, and home to the Pan-American Exposition. Today she is recognized for something totally different: her culture, her taste and her flavor. This flavor comes from the very passionate local food businesses that keep downtown Buffalo thriving, and the foods created by those local businesses that produce a wide variety of flavors only native to downtown Buffalo, NY.
Food, beer, music and film unite Wednesday to support a struggling farm. The pigs, cows and even the produce will be grateful.
