Get fall foods at the farmers market

Whether looking for locally-grown apple pie ingredients or a growler of hardy beer to keep you warm on a crisp autumn night, it’s all up for grabs at the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market.
Outdoor markets are popular summertime destinations, but fall is also an ideal time to get outside to buy all the edible staples for your autumn dinner table. This past weekend, the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market offered pears, cider, exotic apples and tons of other in-season items.
Even LynOaken Farms, a popular New York state you-pick destination that suffered through the tough growing season, offered a variety of classic and exotic apples to shoppers. LynOaken will be setting up shopt at the market every weekend for the rest of the season, according to the market’s Facebook page. Pick up a peck of apples. LynOakens website lists Sweetango, Honeycrisp, Empire and McIntosh as some of the varieties that faired the iffy weather conditions this growing season.
The producer-only market, open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through mid-December, offers a bit more than grocery shopping. The family-friendly atmosphere is enhanced by special events and live music. This Saturday, the market welcomes the Nickel City String Band from 10 to 11:30 a.m., followed by Azure James from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Leonard Oakes Estate Winery, one of the market’s vendors, will be hosting a wine-tasting, too—hey, it’s never too early in the day for just a few sips, right?
