Formed in New York City when Richie James Follin returned from a European tour, Guards was created while Follin started writing songs for his younger sister to sing. Eventually, he sang the songs himself and with the help of friends and family including Caroline Polachek of Chairlift, James Richardson of MGMT, Loren Shane Humphrey of Willowz and Madeline Follin of Cults, a new project was born.

According to a review by Pitchfork, “The latest single from the band’s upcoming LP, “Coming True”, triggers memories of that one song from a dozen forgotten Buzz Bin bands, as slack verses with palm-muted guitars give way to a monster chorus delivered with the confidence that tells you Guards know they have a hit on their hands. The production is just slick enough where it sounds like Guards are aiming for something greater than indie rock, while not opting out of it completely.”

The band’s cool style is very rock and roll, with soft casual fabrics mixed with bold prints and attention grabbing pieces. Richie James Follin, Loren Humphrey and Kaylie Church’s looks all scream rockstar.
