Let’s get weird: Artists & Models tonight at Hallwalls

What is going on in Buffalo? It feels like we’re sleepwalking through an episode of Sex and the City lately. We’re just getting through another successful run of Mercedes-Benz of Buffalo Fashion Week. Friday offered the Runway on the Water fashion show onboard the U.S.S. Sullivans at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval Park. The third annual Teal Carpet Affair to fight ovarian cancer is being held downtown tonight. Oh, and there’s a little event you may have heard of called Artists & Models taking place from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. this evening at the Pierce Arrow building (1685 Elmwood Ave., Buffalo), as well.
Artists & Models: Showoffs is “...a journey to the exquisite, the ecstatic and the unrestrained, possibly to the point of implosion,” according to Hallwalls, and gives ordinary desk jockeys like you and me a chance to mingle with some of the city’s artistic elite. For $20 at the door, attendees will have the opportunity to take in a plethora of expressive and challenging works by the likes of photographer extraordinaire Nancy J. Parisi, beautifully bizarre sculptor Bethany Krull, savvy documentarian Jeff Maciejewski and delightfully chaotic Real Dream Cabaret, among many others.
There will be food from the Whole Hog food truck and a cash bar for those of you who are into those sort of things. There will also be musical performances from the anarchic brass masters of the 12/8 Path Band, the be-mulleted Jack Topht and more. “Showoff attire encouraged,” notes the official event page, so channel your inner electro-funk robot and dress like you want to go home with 10 artists and models. To discuss current events, of course.
