Make a child smile, get a patriotic doughnut

blog by Ben Tsujimoto  •

Marines, doughnuts and happy children don’t seem to share much in common at first glance, but in this holiday initiative, there’s a special combination brewing.

The Marine Corps and Dunkin’ Donuts will collaborate in this year’s Toys for Tots, a drive to raise money to provide toys for underprivileged children across Western New York. For every $1 donation at Dunkin’ Donuts, customers will receive a patriotic-themed doughnut.

First, here’s the important part: after the money is raised on Nov. 25, the Marines Reserve will individually deliver toys to the homes of selected children.

Seriously, that’s a delicious glazed doughnut with those colorful sprinkles that—while often become lodged in your teeth—will put a smile on your face for its tastiness and also lead to a joyous holiday for local kids.

Not a Dunkin’ Donuts regular? No worries—here’s a listing of the brand’s locations throughout Western New York. If you’re trying to cut back on the sweets—first of all, best of luck—but secondly, you can simply purchase an unwrapped toy and drop it off at any of the aforementioned locations.
