The Buffalo Sabres are on the hunt for a few good babies—for the 2013 Newborn Entry Draft, of course.
Yes, there’s a baby draft, and the first draft pick has already been chosen. Haley Elli Matesich was born just minutes into the new year, welcomed by her proud parents and a Sabres president Ted Black, who presented the tiny girl with a yellow Sabres baby blanket and a certificate signed by Sabres owner Terry Pegula.
“Fandom in Buffalo is something that runs much deeper than in most other places,”Black said in a news release. “Even from birth, people here know that hockey and the Sabres are a part of life. This program is a way for us to welcome the newest members of our community and hopefully plant the seed of passion that will grow into a lifetime of embracing the game that we all love so deeply here in Buffalo.”
Babies eligible for the baby draft must be born at either Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital or the Women and Children’s Hospital of Buffalo.
