Shopping with a Stylist: Five for $50 in the Elmwood Village
blog by Molly Hoeltke • February 16, 2013 @ 11:45am
As a stylist, I love finding the perfect pieces for every type of person or persona—but that does not mean shopping without a budget! I have found that many women will opt out of boutique shopping under the assumption that the prices will be out of their budgets. I decided to debunk this myth by finding amazing prices in the chicest of locations.
In this edition of Five for $50, I went to the Elmwood Village, my personal favorite neighborhood for shopping. With spring on the way, I couldn’t help but gravitate towards color and print, and next time you visit the local boutiques you wont be able to contain yourself, either. They are all putting out their spring’s best and you can tell this is going to be one fun shopping season!
Coral Print Racerback Belabumbum Bra ($38) and Panty ($27), Abalie (569 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo)

You can’t forget about bringing color to your lingerie for spring—it’s the base layer for your outfit’s mood. This adorable, casual little set is perfect for warmer weather because it’s made from light, breathable cotton and won’t look bulky under your thin little dresses and tanks. I really like this Belabumbum line, and they have organic bamboo cotton sets at Abalie, as well. The Elmwood Village’s newest lingerie store doesn’t disappoint with a variety of intimates for every shape and style.
Paper Bead “Bits” necklace ($48) Paper Bead “Bits” bracelet ($14), Anna Grace (799 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo)
I always want to buy literally everything in this store, and this trip was no different. The first thing that caught my eye though was this amazing “Bits” jewelry collection, whose mission statement is to empower women in Uganda. Each piece is beautifully handcrafted out of fun colorful paper beads. Now this is shopping you can certainly feel good about!
Southwestern Print Anorak ($30), Second Chic (810 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo)
Anoraks were all the rage this winter, so why not bring them into spring in a fun orange-and-brown combo? This is a fun color to wear for spring because you can style it with black to make it look edgy, an earthy color palette to make it boho, or totally fun with your summer neons. Second Chic’s lovely associates know their inventory so well, are super-helpful and have a way to make every trip to the store a fun adventure!
Emerald Green Blouse ($29), Half and Half (1088 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo)
The Pantone color of spring this year is emerald green—not jewel-toned green, but bright! I like to call it “apple green” because it reminds me to keep it bright. Half and Half has a nice array of spring blouses and dresses in summer brights and a ton of stuff under $50, so hurry before its all gone.
Colorful lace scarves, ($22), Lotions and Potions (798 Elmwood Avenue, Buffalo)
A lace scarf is the prefect accessory for spring in Buffalo, and a quick way to make your outfit instantly feminine and romantic. Lotions and Potions has just about every fun and neutral color you could want in this scarf. Leave it to the most romantic store in the city to make it easy for you to indulge in your girlie side!
