Stacy Clark update: WNY singer-songwriter completing new album, hitting SXSW

What's Stacy Clark up to?

blog by Ben Kirst  •

When last we saw Stacy Clark, it was mid-October and the award-winning singer/songwriter from Grand Island was in Western New York to play a pair of shows in Niagara County—including a stop at the Hard Rock Cafe as part of the Pinktober celebration.

The shows were part of a big year for Clark, whose music has appeared on a dozen television shows ranging from The Hills to Keeping Up With The Kardashians. As we reported at the time,

The homecoming performances (Clark is a Grand Island native) come as part of an exciting 2012 for the young woman who was once named Best Female Performer at the Southern California Music Awards. Clark earned the Best Singer / Songwriter nod at the Artists in Music Series in Los Angeles, saw her music video, “Sign,” get picked up on MTV and Sirius-XM and earned high-profile gigs as the opener for concerts featuring Matt Nathanson, Eddie Money and Roger Hodgson (Supertramp). When she plays the Hard Rock Cafe on Friday, she will warm up the stage for former Go-Gos lead singer Belinda Carlisle.

So what has Clark—who started her musical career as a teenager in open mic performances in Allentown—been up to over the past five months? According to her most recent email update, she’s been hard at work on the follow-up to her self-released record, Patterns.

I am excited to announce I will be releasing my “5th” record ‘Symmetry’ out on an imprint of EMI/Capitol Records this May. It will have songs off ‘Patterns’ (which is now a collectors item) along with some new material I co-wrote with my friend Jon Berry (Runner Runner, Rufio).

Clark also noted that Andrew McMahon, the driving force behind the popular but recently-retired indie pop outfit Jack’s Mannequin, will appear on the record, playing piano and adding vocals to an as-yet unidentified track. Tom Higgenson, singer / guitarist for the Plain White T’s, will also offer guest vocals.

Clark will join the rest of the indie world (as well as our own S.J. Velasquez and Kat Przybyla) in Austin, Texas this week to perform at the annual SXSW Music Fest. She is slated to appear on the Blue Sky Over Austin bill at The Firehouse, a well-known club on one of the city’s main drags for indie music.  She is also slated for an afternoon performance as part of the Pop-Up Records showcase on Wednesday and the Rock SXSW Gibson Showcase on Thursday.

Clark is scheduled to perform in Berlin in May.
