Three cheers for St. Practice Day

About a month before St. Patrick’s Day, Guinness drinkers around the globe lift their pints at precisely the same time to cheers each other and their beverage of choice.
The Great Guinness Toast, also known as St. Practice Day, is generally celebrated the third Friday in February, although there is some disagreement on dates, depending on the city in which it’s being celebrated. The purpose is to break the previously held record for the largest simultaneous toast, as determined by the Guinness World Records. Buffalo, though, will act in accordance with the suggested rule.
Western New Yorkers are invited to join in the annual international simultaneous toast at 11 p.m. Feb. 15 at the Buffalo Irish Center, 245 Abbott Road. The actual toast takes place later in the night, but attendees are welcome to arrive early to enjoy pre-toast music, dancing, raffles and more. The entertainment begins at 7 p.m., with doors opening at 6.
The entertainment lineup includes Penny Whiskey, the Leftovers, Crikwater, the Blarney Bunch, Brian Quigley, Tom Keefer and Celtic Cross, Poor Ould Goat, Reardon and Garvey, Rush the Growler, the Rince Na Tiarna Irish dancers, and the Clann Na Cara Irish dancers.
Advance tickets are $10 and available for purchase at the Buffalo Irish Center bar and the Tara Gift Shoppe, 250 Abbott Road in Buffalo. Tickets will also be sold at the door for $12.
