Tim Hortons steals show on ‘How I Met Your Mother’ - VIDEO

Canadian doughnut-and-coffee chain Tim Hortons continues to ride the wave of pop culture buzz with Monday night’s episode of “How I Met Your Mother.”

The popular sitcom followed character Barney Stinson (Neil Patrick Harris) to Canada where he interviewed his fiance’s (Robin Scherbatsky, played by Cobie Smulders) ex-boyfriends at a Vancouver Tim Hortons.

In an effort to pry open his soon-to-be-bride’s past, Stinson is encouraged by Scherbatsky’s ex Simon Tremblay (James Van Der Beek of “Dawson’s Creek” fame) to watch an episode of “Underneath The Tunes” (Canadian version of “Behind the Music”) about Scherbatsky, who had been a teen pop star in Canada before moving to New York.

In the fictional docu-series episode, actual Canadian celebrities recall the downfall of Robin Sparkles (Scherbatsky’s stage persona), naming the Tim Hortons where they learned the news and the kind of doughnut they were eating at the time.

No, Ontario-born hunk Ryan Gosling did not participate in the episode, unfortunately, but Jason Priestly, Alex Trebek, Dave Coulier, KD Lang, Steven Page and others did.

This is the second “How I Met Your Mother” episode in which a Tim Hortons restaurant is significant to the storyline.
