Time Warner Cable picks up NFL Network

blog by Ben Tsujimoto • September 22, 2012 @ 9:46am
Well, that only took nine years.
Time Warner Cable, the nation’s fourth largest cable TV provider, reached an agreement yesterday with NFL Network to air the channel beginning tomorrow, Week 3 of the NFL season. In the Buffalo area, TWC “digital basic” customers can view the network on channel 187 for standard definition and 1086 for high-definition.
In addition, Time Warner will carry the RedZone channel for its Sports Pass customers, who pay an additional $5.99 per month for a slew of niche sports options. If you’re a fantasy football nut, RedZone not only shows every touchdown in Sunday’s NFL games, but it also switches frequently to games where a team’s offense has advanced inside its opponent’s 20-yard line. The opportunity feels like an IV of nerves and excitement for Buffalo’s legion of fantasy football fanatics.
One of the most respected NFL analysts, former player Mike Mayock, is the color commentator, and he’s joined by Brad Nessler, who handles the play-by-play duties. This battery, in combination with a recognizable pre-game show team, has earned the admiration of some journalists around the country.
The first Thursday Night Football game available to Time Warner customers will run at 8 p.m. Sept. 27 with a rivalry tilt between the Cleveland Browns and the Baltimore Ravens. The Bills host the Miami Dolphins on Nov. 15 on NFL Network, and though WBBZ made a strong push to win the rights to the game—and succeeded—now Buffalo’s cable market will have two viewing options.
And there’s dramatic music to get you riled up!
