Americans love their Labrador retrievers, but Buffalonians prefer a different breed.

By and large, U.S. residents prefer lovable Labs to any other domestic dogs, but Buffalonians differ from other dog-lovers. The American Kennel Club (AKC) announced the top dog breeds across the country, noting that Buffalo once again goes against the national trend.

“While the Labrador retriever remains the nation’s favorite dog, the German shepherd dog remains most popular in Buffalo,” AKC Spokesperson Lisa Peterson said in a statement. “Buffalo did, however, show love to many smaller breeds this year as they moved up in popularity.”

This is the second year in a row that Buffalo favored the German shepherd. Back in 2010, locals’ preferences lined up with the rest of America, putting Labs at the top of the list.
