Vote for favorite WNY band in Hard Rock Rising 2013

blog by Ben Tsujimoto  •

Want to propel a local band to the brink of international glory? Through Niagara Falls’ Hard Rock Cafe’s participation in the annual worldwide Hard Rock Rising competition, local voters can help fulfill dreams for a musical group.

The nominees from the Niagara Falls location have been announced via Facebook, listing 115 local candidates from all over Western New York and over 12,000 worldwide that will compete for three prizes: the grand prize is an international gig as an opener at the Hard Rock Calling festival in London, England, and then a performance slot at Hard Rock Cafes in Sydney, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Chicago and Honolulu, plus $10,000 of music gear and equipment. The two runners-up each receive $10,000 in equipment as well.

In order to show your support, you must first “Like” the Hard Rock Cafe Niagara Falls Facebook page and then download a track from a select artist to place your vote.

For clarification, you can stream the featured song from any listed artist, but a download is the action that registers your vote. You can vote for multiple bands, but only vote once per band.

You can sort the five pages of bands by name, genre and downloads, and Sic Sin is currently leading with 16 votes. One winner will be crowned from Western New York after a number of local showcases at the Hard Rock Cafe in Niagara Falls, and that band will then face stiff international competition from 95 other contenders, and a second round of voting will trim the total remaining to 25.

Then, a pool of judges—headlined by Steven Van Zandt of the E. Street Band—will choose the three prize winners.

In 2010, local band More Than Me won the entire competition and performed at Hyde Park in London on a bill with Pearl Jam, Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder. More recently, Whiskey Reverb—a candidate again in 2013—nabbed the most votes in the local poll but couldn’t advance to the final 25.
