Ace of Cakes meets King of Wings

Update from National Buffalo Wing Festival: Cake finalists will be presenting their cakes at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, instead of the previously reported Sunday.

Ten years old. Can you believe it? Our little baby is growing up!
The National Buffalo Wing Festival, Sept. 3 and 4, is celebrating 10 years of highlighting America’s spiciest, tangiest, sauciest poultry parts, and Wing King Drew Cerza is calling for a party. In honor of the occasion, he’s invited “Ace of Cakes” star Duff Goldman and his experimental rock band, Sand Ox, to rock the main stage Saturday night of the festival and to—appropriately enough—judge birthday cakes.
Wait, cakes? At Wing Fest?
Yes. YES!
“Since this is Wing Fest’s 10th birthday, we are celebrating with a special birthday cake contest,” Cerza said in a release. “And who better to judge our cake competition than the Ace of Cakes himself, Duff Goldman, along with the members of his Sand Ox Band.”
I couldn’t agree more, King Drew.
Want to participate in the great Wing Fest bake-off? Here are the rules:
All Wing Fest cake contest entries must be submitted through the Wing festival website (http://www.buffalowing.com). A picture of the cake and the baker, as well as the general recipe idea and cake name, must be included with any submission. Contest entries will be accepted from Aug. 16 through Aug. 27. Three finalists will be announced in each division on Monday, Aug. 29. Finalists will present their cakes on the main stage of the National Buffalo Wing Festival Saturday, Sept. 5 at 2:30 p.m. before a panel of judges including Duff Goldman and his Sand Ox band. All cakes may be no bigger than 11-by-14 inches wide and 2 feet high. Cakes will be judged on design, presentation, taste and creative execution of 10th Wing Festival Birthday theme with a chicken wing flair. Cakes and frostings must be made from scratch.
The Buffalo.com team will be wandering the festival, getting saucy (you know how we do), taking photos and talking to strangers. If you see us, say hello. We’ll be the gaggle of goons with cameras, notebooks and wing sauce dripping from our faces.
