Bongiovi gets saucy at WNY Wegmans

Jon won’t be the only one from the Bongiovi (Bon Jovi) family in town this week.
The rockstar’s father, John Bongiovi Sr., will come to WNY to celebrate the launch of his family brand of sauces at Wegmans locations. Bongiovi Brand prides itself on being as authentically homemade as you can get with three varieties including marinara, garden style and arrabbiata.
“Passed down three generations, the Bongiovi family recipe originated in the town of Sciacca, Sicily in the late 1800s. When Great Grandma Bongiovi would prepare the sauce, she made enough to feed the neighborhood. This tradition was passed to her son, which was then passed to his son and then passed again to his three sons in America,” according to the Bongiovi website.
Kept a “family secret” for years, the family had been told time and time again by friends and family members that they should bottle the sauce. But since pasta sauce out of a jar was not the way the Bongiovi family made dinner, they knew they had to do it right.
“Our secret to the homemade taste is making small batches with the highest quality ingredients available. After numerous attempts, we have been able to master the process that allows us to bring a true homemade taste from the jar to your table,” says their website.
Looking to try a taste of the sauce as it is released in the area? Stop by between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Sunday (July 21) at the Wegmans in Depew (4960 Transit Road) to meet John Bongiovi Sr. and Anthony who will have a stocked pasta wagon to share. They will be giving out samples and you can enter to win tickets to the Jon Bon Jovi show at Darien Lake on Tuesday (July 23). Honestly, not a bad deal.
Additionally 100% of the proceeds from Bongiovi sauce sales for the day will be donated between Soul Kitchen (Bon Jovi’s community restaurant and volunteer project) and the Food Bank of WNY. Sounds like the perfect time to stock up on some tasty sicilian sauces.
