Cook like a Nickel City Chef

blog by S.J. Velasquez • October 11, 2011 @ 10:19am
If you’ve had the pleasure of attending any of the Nickel City Chef cooking battles, you know that the local chefs competing for top culinary honors sure can make creative, mouth-watering dishes from a limited supply of ingredients. Now, you can channel a little of the chefs’ kitchen inspirations with a brand new cookbook, set to go on sale later this month.
“Nickel City Chef: Buffalo’s Finest Chefs & Ingredients,” written by local food guru Christa Glennie Seychew, “features 32 recipes, farm profiles, chef biographies, competition insights,” and a DVD with competition videos and special footage. The official book launch is Oct. 25, and there’s a free launch party for anyone interested in meeting the team behind the book, obtaining autographs from the chefs featured in the book, or snagging some tasty snacks. Oh, and there’s a cash bar (woot, woot).
The festivities run from 5:30 to 9 p.m. at Artisan Kitchens and Baths, home to the Nickel City Chef competition. Guests are asked to bring a non-perishable food item to be donated to the Food Bank of Western New York. Get more info at the official Facebook event page.
Reserve a copy of the cookbook-DVD combo from Buffalo Heritage Unlimited for about $25. Hey, it’s never too early to start your holiday shopping, especially if you have a foodie among your family and friends.
