Larkin Square bustles for happy hour

blog by Ben Tsujimoto  •

The Larkin Square will now be open for happy hour from 4 to 8 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, Seamus Gallivan of the Good Neighborhood announced.

The Grill, the covered outdoor food-and-drink station situated close to Seneca Street, will offer two-for-one Labatt Blue beers and grilled options like hot dogs, Spars European sausage and BBQ sliders ($5-10). The menu changes on a weekly basis, however, so be prepared for new choices.

New to Larkin Square is a smattering of outdoor games, including KanJam, pickleball (tennis with a Wiffle ball, essentially), hula hoops and ladder toss (known forever to me as “horse nuts”.) All of these are free to play, although beer is not allowed on the pickleball courts.

Building off momentum from the Wednesday Live at Larkin concerts—there’s one tonight featuring Chris Nathan and the Caitlin & the Jamie Moses Band—there’s plenty of incentive to bring evening events to one of Buffalo’s most promising areas on a more regular basis.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to sit in the covered—but still bright—outside lounge area, munch on a delicious peppered pork sandwich for lunch from Square 1 Sandwiches or overlook the bustling square from the elevated gazebo-like seating, Buffalo.com would strongly recommend it. Larkin Square is a cocoon of energy, creativity and comfort in an area of Buffalo that you wouldn’t expect.
