Lloyd Dos: It’s happenin’

Although it came down to the wire, Lloyd Taco Truck has surpassed its goal of raising $12,500 toward the purchase of a second mobile food vehicle.

Lloyd was roughly $2,000 short of its Kickstarter goal early this week and drew local criticism for its use of a public fundraising site for a for-profit business, but the food truck’s rabid supporters felt the urgency of the deadline and broke the $12,500 barrier just after midnight Thursday morning—mere hours before the venture would have closed at 9:33 a.m.

Currently, 299 customers pledged money to Lloyd’s push for a second truck, totaling $13,741 toward the new truck’s down payment. Those who pledged will now receive the perks, as Lloyd promised tiered prizes in return for support including free tacos, bumper stickers, t-shirts, Rocket sauce to larger rewards like exclusive tastings of new menu items, 52 free burritos and the ability to bypass any lines in front of the truck—to me, that’s the biggest prize.

Kudos to owners Chris Dorsaneo and Peter Cimino for rallying customers in support of a cause that will give taco lovers greater opportunity to access Lloyd’s fare.
