A fan of LeMetro myself, I was eager to try out Coco after hearing good things from local foodies and colleagues.
Located where The Eights once was at 888 Main Street in Buffalo, Coco by LeMetro has a very cool look with incredible oversized artworks that instantly grab your attention. I was completely drawn to the abstract rendition of the Eiffel Tower, that was displayed from floor to ceiling in the dining area.
Not too crowded, we got a table easily and were presented with a menu with many options I was interested in trying. Some included the gourmet salad, turkey sage cheddar sandwich and lemon linguine and spiced shrimp. For a full menu, head over to the Coco website for all offerings.
The bar area was also impressive with seated couches and other whimsical additions including another large painting on the back wall. The restaurant’s inspiration, a quote from Coco Chanel herself is as follows, “Hard times arouse an instinctive desire for authenticity.”
Upon seating we were brought slices of French bread—no surprise there since the place has a young, Parisian flair. The butter, topped with fresh rosemary was another nice touch before our meal.
For my choice, I went with the chicken pho which was served in a huge white bowl including coconut curry broth, chicken, vegetables, rice
noodles, basil and mint. More than I could ever finish in one sitting, I went home with two small bowls of pho that I plan on finishing for dinner later. Not the kind of pho I’m used to, the curry and coconut were a great mix and combined for a fully flavorful broth. Packed with vegetables and noodles at the bottom, this was definitely a dish I would get again.
In the area for business, my Dad joined me and went with the pear chicken salad which included honey mustard dressed greens, grilled chicken,
walnuts, gorgonzola and craisins. He was a huge fan of the dressing saying it had a great burst of flavor with the mustard. This dish was another success, seeing as h didn’t leave one leaf left on the plate.
Overall, I would definitely come back to Coco by LeMetro for another meal—preferably dinner. A great atmosphere, I’d be interested to see how the night scene is and the crowd that would frequent. With the bit of buzz already surrounding the restaurant, I’m already looking forward to my second visit.
