My first beer

blog by S.J. Velasquez • June 03, 2011 @ 12:20pm
You know the drill: We ask you a question each Friday, and you respond in the comments section for a chance to win great prizes.
This week, we want you to tell us about your first beer—which you obviously consumed at legal drinking age. From the responses in the comments section below, we’ll choose one person who will receive $20 to Ulrich’s, a local beer-lover’s haven.
So tell us (in the comments section below), what was your first beer?
(Mine was Rolling Rock. It was at a beach party. And I was 21 years old ... according to my ID.)

Budweiser at The Locker Room (then at Delaware & Delevan), I was eighteen…and legal, so I must be a bit older than you!
blue light. it tasted like crap and still does to this day!
Amstel at the Ukrainian bar in Amman, Jordan! I was 20 and legal.. Thats their drinking age! :)
My first was a Yuengling in a cabin. I didn’t drink at the time, and my friends dared me to in a game of Truth or Dare.
First beer was a warm Coor’s Light. Drank it in the woods behind my house. Didn’t get why people were so into it because it seemed kind of gross. First “official” beer as a 21-year-old was a Busch Light at 11 AM on my 21st birthday. We keep it classy in Dunkirk.
in a dorm at college freshman year…i was a good kid. tasted nasty, but the buzz was fun! haha
First beer was a Blue Light at a bonfire during high sch… I mean college. Still drink it today!
Ha! Oh, the memories. Has anyone ever truly enjoyed the taste of beer on the first try? It took me a good 10 years before I began to like it.
Rolling Rock
labatt blue. i was at a lifeguard party. someone’s mom bought us a few cases.
After derby practice we used to religiously go to Dwyers. There, a girl named Rockets convinced me I would like beer if I tried the RIGHT beer. I got an EBC Blueberry aka “Muffin Beer.” Then I got into apricots, heffs and then syrupy dark IPAs- and I haven’t looked back.
First taste of beer: Genny Light—my grandparents drink of choice! I think all the grandkids have the same story—camping with them during the summer, sitting in front of the campfire at night. I’d wait for them to walk away to get s’mores fixings and steal a sip, thinking it would eventually HAVE to taste good. Be it my age (the inquisitve single digit era) or the brand, it never delivered the delicious flavor I was expecting.
I’m pretty sure it was Busch or Busch Light, which I find to be rather delicious, provided it’s cold.
My first beer…yuch!! Times have changed!
As a kid, My dad built me an ice rink in the our back yard. After a late night skate (7pm?) I wanted to do what my dad did after his hockey games—have a beer. This resulted in one of my favorite pictures. I’m on the back steps sipping a labatt’s blue half geared up in my hockey stuff. I’m about 8. (one sip only though. Hope that counts).
Hey, Luke, we drew your name! I’ll email you :)
Rolling Rock. I think I am too late to enter. :(
Does “I can’t remember” count for my first legal beer? It was a fuzzy October evening… I’d have to say my first beer ever was a warm Labatt can, stored above a ceiling tile after being lifted from a friends parents fridge when they were down at the beach. Not too clever..
My first beer was when I travelled to Germany as an undergrad. My student group met in Cologne, Germany and traveled to Bavaria. Our professor insisted we try the local beer of each region we visited, so my first beer was Koelsch. That summer, I got hooked on hefeweizen, and to this day will not drink American mass marketed brews. I have luckily found microbrews I enjoy, rather than continuously paying for imports!
My first beer was on a vacation with my boyfriend (now husband) to Tampa Florida. While there we visited Busch Gardens. If you were legal age, which was 18 in Florida, you could taste a sample of beer at the amusement park. I tried a basic Busch and thought it was cool. On a hot day it tasted great. Ooh ahh. Then off to the rollercoaster.
