Roll up the rim contest underway again at Tim Hortons

It’s hard to replicate the feeling you get when you roll up the rim of a Tim Hortons cup. Maybe it’s the anticipation of having a free doughnut in your future, or maybe it’s the fact that the process of rolling can be rather painstaking.
Still, you know the benefit of participating is two-fold: you’ll enjoy the perks of the warm elixir inside—prize winner or not—but your attention is briefly drawn to the arrows pointing to the top of the cup. Is there a metaphorical car lurking under there?
The Tim Hortons RRRoll Up the Rim to Win! contest begins today and runs through April 25 or until cup supplies last at all Western New York locations. Participating cup sizes vary but are typically medium, large and extra-large. (Cut to a shot of a soggy “small” cup pouting in the corner, unable to join in the shenanigans with its taller counterparts).
This year, in honor of the contest’s 50th anniversary, there are two chances to win on each cup—above the yellow arrow there’s one are of the rim to peel back, and above the blue arrow, there’s another opportunity. See the interior photo if you’re at all confused—no tricks here.
It’s important to note that no cups will have two winners, so if your heart sinks upon one “Please Play Again” roll, pick yourself up and try again with the second.
Odds of winning are 1-in-6, and grand prizes include 40 2014 Toyota Corolla Sport vehicles (to own, not lease), 40 pre-paid Visa cards with $5,000 values, 25,000 Tim cards worth $100 apiece, and millions of doughnut and beverage prizes.
Also noteworthy: If you win a “Free Donut,” you can select a cookie or a muffin instead. Tim Hortons also presents an option for the brand’s online fanatics, as RRRoll up Roulette can be played at the bottom of the page here.
Best of luck unrolling!
(This post—not shockingly, of course—was inspired by The Buffalo News’ digital engagement editor, S.J. Velasquez, longtime Tim Hortons aficionado and doughnut lover.)
