The Barrel, beer and breast cancer awareness at Brawler’s Deli

Think you can finish a 3.5-pound sandwich with seven deli meats, five cheeses, coleslaw, lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and three pieces of rye bread in one hour?
Only nine people out of 58 who have attempted have accomplished this feat at Brawler’s Deli.
Brawler’s will host its third annual sandwich eating contest, inspired by the Travel Channel show “Man vs. Food,” on Thursday.
Doors will open at 5 p.m. and the contest begins at 6:30 p.m. in the sprawling basement of Pearl Street Grill & Brewery.
Winners of the contest will win gift certificates to the brewery, which, given the plethora of choices Pearl Street’s property offers, might be worth a little bloating and overly-full stomach.
Last year’s winner set a record of finishing the sandwich—ominously dubbed “The Barrel”—in 13 minutes, a mixture of impressive and disturbing.
Channel 4 meteorologist and previous contestant Brian Shaw will emcee this year’s contest, and other guests from Channel 4 will be guest bartenders for the night. Other prizes and raffles are scheduled throughout the night and the Buffalo Bills vs. Cleveland Browns game will air on the bar’s 14 TVs.
Admission to the event is $5, which will be donated to Roswell Park Cancer Institute for cancer research. Last year, over $1,000 was raised by the event.
The contest allows for five to six participants, so compete by registering at 76 Pearl Street or call (716) 939-3670.
