We be RRRollin’

Get your lower set of teeth ready to unroll that rim—Tim Hortons RRRoll Up the Rim to Win campaign is back in action for 2012.
This year, the Canadian coffee and doughnut chain is advertising a bunch of brand new prizes for those coffee drinkers who (1.) can actually manage to unroll that rim, (2.) discover they’re in possession of a game-winning cup. Among the most coveted prizes are a brand new Toyota Camry Hybrid, Lumix digital cameras and Panasonic 3D TV packages.
And, yes, people really do win. To get an idea of where top prizes were claimed in 2011, check out this RRRoll Up the Rim prize map that tracks last year’s big winners. One Lakeview guy won a Rav4 last year—no joke. And follow this year’s winners here.
The RRRoll Up the Rim to Win campaign began in 1986 as a way for the coffee and doughnut shops to reward customer loyalty, according to a 2011 press release. Here are a few other tidbits—err, Timbits? A-har-har!—of information about the more than a quarter-century-old campaign:
- The iconic Roll Up the Rim to Win(R) cup hasn’t always been red—there has been a blue, brown and even a black cup
- The most valuable prize in Roll Up the Rim’s inaugural year was a snack pack of Timbits
- First year a vehicle was introduced—1988
Full disclosure: I am a Tim Hortons prize-winning machine. I have never won a major RRRoll Up the Rim prize, but I did win a fabulous prize package and awesome title a few years ago. I’m Tim Hortons’ Biggest Fan in Central New York. I know, I know this is Western New York. But back when I was a Syracuse resident, I won the contest. Tim Hortons awarded me $500 in Tim Cards, a GPS with Tim Hortons locations pre-programmed in it and some other sweet swag.
The photo above is of a winner RRRoll up the Rim cup, which I’d purchased with one of my Tim Cards that I’d won from the CNY contest. Yeah, Tim Hortons is the gift that keeps on giving to me.
