The perseverance of a popular Elmwood pizza place has come to an abrupt halt.
Zettis on elmwood notice of eviction. Wow #buffalo closed down— buffalo sweats (@buffalosweats) February 5, 2014
A stop by 976 Elmwood Ave. Wednesday morning confirmed the tweet, as a small note (see right) explained that tenant John Fusco, owner of Zetti’s commercial business, had been evicted from the space as of Feb. 4.
The restaurant, which claimed to specialize in “authentic New York-style pizza”—and boasted giant slices desirable for those with 4 a.m. hunger pangs, opened on Elmwood in March 2010 to acclaim from the local media.
Late in 2013, Zetti’s original location—based at 3500 Main St. close to the intersection with Bailey—closed for good, but one Zetti’s remains at 4621 Maple Rd. in Amherst.
According to customer reviews on Urbanspoon, the Maple restaurant appears to be the best of the bunch.
Fusco was in the news back in September 2011 as a dissenting voice against food trucks, arguing at the time that the absence of a bathroom would be a sound reason to squelch the wave of mobile food.
Expect the newly vacant location to be desirable, though, as its location at the intersection of Bidwell and Elmwood—the site of the Elmwood-Bidwell Farmers Market—finds a regular swell of foot-traffic, especially during the warmer months.
Zetti’s eviction may be even tougher news for drunk-food junkies, who could still be dealing with the fallout of Zonies re-branding as Calios, which, frankly, was pretty confusing for us all.
