It was a hot, humid first day of September in downtown Buffalo as connoisseurs of chicken wings from every state and all the continents (other than Antartica) gathered on the covered surface of Coca-Cola Field to taste, devour and gorge on chicken wings from friers represented nationwide.
The climax of the event was the National Buffalo Wing Eating Championship. Seven giant serious men and three petite buoyant women stood on the stage behind a table with pounds of chicken wings in front of them with the objective of consuming as many wings as possible in a 12-minute time frame. The women won! All three women ate more wings than any of the men. The winner—Miki Sudo—downed 178 wings in 12 minutes.
