The souperbowl of Buffalo’s food festivals, the fourth annual Buffalo Soup-Fest, came to the rescue on this past cold and snowy Sunday.
Boasting over 7,000 attendees, the Soup-Fest filled the Buffalo Niagara Convention Center with every soup lover’s delight.
Attendees had the chance to sample soup and other goodies from over 40 vendors and judge the soups in 14 different categories. 2014’s special beer challenge was the Brooklyn Brewery Challenge and was judged by the Workshop’s Chef Ed Forster, Rusty Nickel Brewing’s Jason Havens and the Mansion on Delaware’s Chef Jennifer Boye. Other parts of the experience included live music from Sara Elizabeth Genco and a gaming area sponsored by Oogie Games.
We were able to sample a steaming cauldron full of soups while snapping photos of the wonderful Western New Yorkers that came out on Sunday afternoon.
In trying to come up with our favorites there were four at the forefront of our mind: SATO’s Japanese Braised Pork Stew, Crazy Jake’s Spicy Banana Pepper, and Osteria 166’s Pasta Fagioli and Pork Chili.
It seems we were channeling the crowd’s collective pallet after taking a look at this year’s winners posted on the Buffalo Soup-Fest Facebook page. Aside from posting the winners of this year’s awards Soup-Fest’s page also boasts some entertaining videos of Soup-Fest creator Matt Carlucci (Seen in the center of the header photo.) sampling some of the soups throughout the day.
If you weren’t able to warm yourself up with these delicious soups, at least you can watch someone else enjoy them and dream of next year.
Check out the photo gallery for shots of some of the delicious soups as well as the vendors and soup lovers in attendance.
