The Lake Effect Furies, the all-star travel team from Buffalo's all-women flat track roller derby league Queen City Roller Girls, held their second annual chili cook off at Appliance Associates of Buffalo on Saturday night. The chili cook off is an annual fundraiser which helps the unpaid professional roller derby team pay for its travel expenses throughout the year. With the success of the event, the Furies will again compete against other nationally ranked teams all across North America. Those that competed in the cook off included fans, relatives, and even players from the Queen City Roller Girls. Attendees were able to sample 18 different chili entries, compete for awesome raffle prizes and sample beers from Flying Bison Brewing Company. Check out the photo gallery to see Buffalo's finest fans of roller derby, the awesome chili cooks, and the Furies themselves.
You can see the Lake Effect Furies in their next competition at Rainbow Rink in North Tonawanda on Saturday, Jan. 26 against the Rideau Valley Rollergirls, another all-star team from Ottawa, Canada.
