The Juneteenth Festival was established in June of
1865 to celebrate freedom from slavery as mandated by the Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth made it's way to Buffalo, New York in 1976 through the BUILD Organization, a local civil rights group. For over 25 years Juneteenth continues to be a prominent African American two day summer event.

The Mission of the Juneteenth Festival is to promote cultural awareness and family bonding within the African American community.
