Style takes work, especially in a city dependent on parkas and fleece-lined boots during a good portion of the year.

But that’s no excuse to dress slovenly, Buffalo, especially when we’ve been blessed with designers ready to dress Buffalonians to the nines! Get to know some of the world’s hottest up-and-coming creative style minds at one of many Mercedes-Benz of Buffalo Fashion Week events, which run from Saturday to Sept. 10. Here’s what’s happening:

Saturday: Catch a runway event at the Walden Galleria featuring fashions from H&M. Shows are at 1, 2, 3:30 and 4:30 p.m.

Wednesday: Talk about high fashion and luxury! There’s an event at the Mansion on Delaware. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for a photo shoot, followed by a cash-bar cocktail hour, then two shows courtesy of Reckless Necklace and Thomas Lee Designs. Indulge in a little drinking and fashion for just $15 a ticket.

Sept. 8: Head over to the Buffalo Museum of Science to meet Congo-based fashion designer Kahindo Mateene, and see what colorful creations she’s conjured up. Mateene is also recognized for her position as 2011 Designer In Residence in the Chicago Fashion Incubator at Macy’s. For $25 a ticket, enjoy an open-bar cocktail hour from 7 to 8 p.m., followed by Mateene’s runway show.

Sept. 10: The main event! So much style crammed into a single evening at the Buffalo Convention Center, 153 Franklin St. Doors open at 6 p.m. See designs from HVS, Jimmy Lee, Lawrence Pizzi, VW “Uncapped,” Solome and Zita Pop. Tickets range from $35 to $45, and we hear they sell out fast.
