Check your calendar, because it is not April Fools Day. Buffalo really is among cities worldwide with the fastest income growth rate.

Still don’t believe me? Check out this recently released study from the Brookings Institute, which outlines economic growth in the world’s major metropolitan markets.

While America’s income rate averaged at 0.9 percent from 2010 to 2011, Buffalo’s income growth rose 3.9 percent, helping the Queen City land the fourth spot on the list of cities worldwide with the significant income growth. Our Western New York neighbors in Rochester came in sixth place with an income growth rate of 3.3 percent. Here’s a list of the top 10 cities:

1. Houston
2. Shenyang
3. Riyadh
4. Buffalo
5. Dallas
6. Rochester
7. Jiddah
8. Stuttgart
9. Detroit
10. New York

Buffalo Business First pointed out that America’s Rustbelt cities outperformed Sunbelt cities, which were hit harder by recession. Pays off to have thick skin, huh?
