Friday Favorites: Who’s your favorite local character?

Buffalo is filled with friendly people, but some of the residents in the City of Good Neighbors stand out from the crowd. Today, we celebrate Buffalo’s local celebs, the neighborhood characters who make life in the Queen City interesting.

For today’s Friday Favorites contest, name your favorite local celebrity or reputable resident. Write his or her name (or pseudonym) in the comments section below to be entered in a drawing for two Regal Cinemas tickets and two Bisons tickets. We’ll pick a winner at 3 p.m.

Note: Be sensitive. Local characters are people, too.

The guy who sells jewelry on Elmwood and Allen Sts. all of the time is kind of irritating but he is definitely a character, part of the scene. Also, there used to be a guy who did card tricks near Elmwood and Auburn. For a couple extra bucks, he’d show you how he did them, too.

Love that Friday Favorites are back! My favorite local celeb is Kenny the Can Man who goes around the Canisius campus on his bike picking up all the cans that kids have left over from parties, etc. His bike almost falls over half the time because it’s so heavy with cans.

The gentleman lovingly known as ‘The Get-Down Cowboy’..he travels around
town ranging from the Elmwood village to Orchard Park to Williamsville. He is typically in jeans, cowboy boots & a tattered suit coat with a Marlboro hanging on to his lip & guitar strapped to his back.. His garb, scruff & ‘Tom Waits’ish like voice give him a small audience in hopes for a few singles to find their way into his ajar & vacant guitar case. Not incredibly famous, but isn’t that what TRUE rock n’ roll is?
