The Canisius College men’s ice hockey team has earned some national attention over the past couple seasons for its high-scoring, let-it-all-hang-out offense.  As it turns out, the Golden Griffins are also a bunch of brainiacs. No one can accuse these guys of skating through class.  Eh?  Eh?

Anyhow: according to the Griffs’ sports information department, “A total of 15 Canisius College student-athletes were honored for their work off the ice on Thursday, earning Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team accolades.”  The biggest brain of all may belong to freshman Ryan Bohrer, who earned a slot on the Academic Team for owning the top GPA at his position. Canisius reported that “(Bohrer) earned a perfect 4.0 GPA during the 2010-11 season, while recording 12 points, five goals and seven assists in 37 games.”

Other All-Academic Team members from the Griffs’ roster included seniors Phil Rauch, Matt Zuke, Chris Forsman, Cory Conacher, Scott Jenks, Scott Moser, Derek Danowski, Torrey Lindsay, Ben Parker, Preston Shupe, Ben Danford, Kyle Gibbons, Taylor Law and Jordan Mustard.

To qualify for the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team, an individual must post a 3.0 grade point average or higher in each academic semester during the 2010-11 year.
