Krazy for Kickball: Local tourney highlights rubber ball love

Kickball: not a game, a lifestyle

blog by Ben Kirst  •

It’s not exactly breaking news that kickball has enjoyed a bit of a resurgence among the young folks over the past few years.  When I went went to SXSW this March (HUMBLE BRAG), three different kickball organizations were represented.  The good folks of Williamsburg have had a kickball league for nearly a decade.  There are established leagues right here in Buffalo, or as it is often known, “Brooklyn West.”

For those who wish to get into the local kickball circuit, you can check out the showdown that the housing advocacy group Heart of the City is putting together.  On Saturday, June 4, Heart of the City will sponsor its second annual kickball tournament at LaSalle Park from noon to 6 pm

Here are the details, straight from the HOTC site:

“Registration is $15 per player, with a ten player minimum. Each player will receive water, two food tickets, one beer ticket, and a guaranteed work-out! In addition, the winning team in this tournament will receive a trophy!  Registration deadline is May 27th.

“Teams are encouraged to come up with a team name and team uniforms! Don’t forget your cheerleaders- bring your family and friends for support! Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to reacquaint or introduce your organization to the community!

“To register, contact our Community Outreach Coordinator at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) or call (716) 882-7661 ext 202.”

As a warmup, the gentlemen rockers of Free Henry! and Aqueous will perform at Pearl Street Grill and Brewery on May 20 and May 21 and will use their platform to promote the tourney and the hotshot teams that have already registered.  Our pals at The Good Neighborhood (who apparently took home the vaunted HOTC title last summer) have all the details on those shindigs

Remember, it doesn’t matter who wins or loses.  No, really, it doesn’t - you’re playing kickball.  Drink a bunch of beer and have a blast.
