Social Media Day Extravaganza

by Ben Tsujimoto • June 28, 2011 @ 2:32pm
On a national scale, Buffalo may be perceived as a laggard market for social media—businesses still struggle to integrate SM, and while Facebook use is widespread, other social media tools like Twitter, Foursquare and Tumblr remain generally untouched by Buffalonians. There’s only a little truth to this reputation, and a strong current of social media fanatics is doing everything in its power to propel the city forward.
At Social Media Day, organized by the Buffalo chapter of the Social Media Club, the city’s social media aficionados—in some cases, borderline addicts—will mingle at The Eights Bistro on 888 Main Street to celebrate the tools that have revolutionized communication. There’s no level of social media expertise required, so don’t feel like your Klout score has to be over 50 to attend (in fact, people might make fun of you if there’s Klout bragging). If anything, you’ll gather a few tips on how to better use your own social media tools. There’s no better forum to share ideas than around reduced price alcohol. That’s a fact.
The networking party begins at 6 p.m. on Thursday, and there’s no cover charge. For those who check in at The Eights on Foursquare, several specials will be available: $1 off beer, $5 glasses of wine and 20% off a food purchase. There will be a live Twitter feed posted at the event too—see your Tweets or comment on the event with the hashtag #smdaybuf. The ferocious beats of DJ LoPro will lend an energetic backdrop to the conversation and the door giveaways are unbeatable—30 organizations will offer prizes, including the likes of Perry’s Ice Cream, Lloyd Taco Truck, Darien Lake, Visit Buffalo Niagara and several more. You know what would be outstanding? If Lloyd sold gift cards.
Anyhow, there’s no better networking opportunity if you’re looking to participate in local social media. The Eights, a hip vegan-friendly restaurant with ample local beer and wine options, is the perfect host, so start tweeting excitedly!
We’re proud to be a major sponsor, too! If you come out, be sure to say hello to us—we’re not shy.
