Before the sunshine fades and snow covers the roads come enjoy the great weather for a great cause, walking to raise awareness for breast cancer in Buffalo.
Participate and/or support the Bosom Buddies Walk, which will take place on Saturday at the Healthy Zone Rink, 41 Riley St., East Aurora, to support the WNY Breast Resource Center at Roswell Park.
Bosom Buddies was founded in 1993 by two women who were diagnosed with breast cancer. They decided to develop a walk to raise awareness in 1995 to help newly diagnosed women find out more information about breast cancer.
Since the passing of Doreen Mortimer, one of the walk’s founders, the walk has been dedicated to her and chaired by Bunkie Hawk, the other founder. In the 17 years the walk has been held, $800,000 has been raised for breast cancer awareness and research.
This year’s walk will feature 5-mile, 3-mile and 1.5-mile walks; all participants will need to raise a minimum of $25 in pledge donations.
Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. and the walk will start at 9:30.If you register online, it is $10 to participate, or you can register on the day of the event for $15. Click for more information about registration.
If you don’t want to participate in the walk, you can still donate online.
