Buffalo Bills draft review

Well, consider me fooled. Even though NFL Network’s Mike Mayock, ESPN’s Todd McShay and everyone else’s brother said that Von Miller had catapulted (again, not literally) over Marcell Dareus, I insisted that it was a smokescreen. After all, Denver had Elvis Dumervil as a speed rusher but no one powerful enough to collapse the pocket on a regular basis. To me, Dareus was a better complement to Dumervil than Von Miller. Maybe Dumervil hasn’t recovered from his season-ending injury as quickly as expected. That’s enough of my feeble attempts to justify something that doesn’t matter to Buffalonians.
The Buffalo News’ Allen Wilson broke down the Bills’ picks from the weekend, lauding Nix and Gailey’s commitment to defense. It’s worth reiterating that Buffalo is still looking for a quarterback—a younger backup, preferably—since Brian Brohm isn’t expected to be retained. I’m not convinced the once highly-touted Brohm ever received a fair chance, but then again, I didn’t watch practice everyday either. Previously-cut and reluctantly-resigned Levi Brown is a shaky reserve at best.
Instead of reading my babble about why I think Michael Jasper is the greatest seventh round pick ever, I’ll direct you to NFL draft grades from reputable sources around the web.
Mel Kiper Jr., ESPN.com (must be Insider subscriber). If you’re not, Kiper gave the Bills a C+ for addressing their needs but a B+ for the value in their picks. Mel harps on Buffalo for not addressing the offensive line until late or the quarterback position at all.
Kerry Byrne, SI.com (Not sure if I trust a fellow named Kerry, though.)
And, if you’re one of those weirdos like I am, here’s a couple mock drafts for 2012.
Brian Galliford, Buffalo Rumblings
Mel Kiper Jr.‘s Top Fives positionally (must be Insider subscriber again).
