WNY company has hand in Mars Rover landing

blog by Kathryn Przybyla • August 09, 2012 @ 10:27am
A little piece of Western New York has found its way into outer space.
The East Aurora based company, MOOG played a part in providing materials for the launch vehicle of the Mars Rover.
According to Buffalo Business First,
Paul King, business unit engineering manager for spacecraft fluid controls at Moog, said the Elma-based manufacturer didn’t supply the Rover itself, but had a lot of parts on equipment that landed the Rover onto the surface of Mars on Aug. 6.
Moog supplied hardware to make sure the vehicle got into initial orbit, and had thruster valves and drain valves for the cruise stage of the mission.
For astronomy geeks around the world, this Mars Rover landing was a pretty huge deal. Colored photos and video are slowly starting to be released from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which give great insight to the red planet. You can check out this complete gallery of NASA’s photos from the landing or check out this incredible color and interactive panorama shot.
Below, are a few photos shared through social media and the video to learn more about the landing.
