Ad Week is back this year with a great lineup of industry relevant events, programs and speakers from the Advertising Club of Buffalo.
According to their website, “Advertising Club of Buffalo is an organization designed to promote and foster interaction among the graphic arts and marketing communication professionals in the Western New York area.”
Focusing on industry developments in the advertising, graphic design, visual arts, interactive, print production, broadcasting and publication fields, the group also has a great reach towards getting students involved.
Take a look at our summed up list of the 2013 schedule of events planned for Sept. 24 to 27.
**Tuesday, Sept. 24—Templeton Landing, 2 Templeton Terrace, Buffalo
**Cash bar and hors d’oeuvres at 5:15 p.m., presentation at 6 p.m.
**Student members: $5, Members: $10, Non-members: $25
Having 20 years of experience under your belt is no longer required to take ownership of a project, but with painstakingly visible differences between Millennials, Generation X and Y, a trend has become more apparent. Allowing your company’s young professionals to champion new ideas and initiatives may sound scary at first, but leadership, especially from “the kids” has often proved successful. Area experts will serve on a panel to discuss the topic with those in attendance. You can also submit questions and topics ahead of time.
**Wednesday, Sept. 25—The Knox Room at the Buffalo Niagara Partnership (665 Main Street – Suite 200)
**Donuts and coffee at 8 a.m., presentation 8:30 to 9:30 a.m.
**Free for Ad Club, Social Media Club, Buffalo Niagara Partnership members who pre-register or $5 at the door
To say that Buffalo-native Craig Kanalley is a social media success story would be a serious understatement – and he’s only 27. After three years as a senior editor at The Huffington Post and a brief stint as a social media editor at NBC News, Craig has returned home to work full-time as the social media manager for our beloved Sabres (who just happen to be his all-time favorite sports team). Craig will chat about all things social media with an engaging Q&A session about his career, industry advice and more.
**Thursday, Sept. 26—Karpeles Manuscript Museum, Buffalo Porter Hall
**Presentation from 7 to 9 p.m.
**Ad Club members: $25, Non-members: $45
Bob Hoffman is a partner in the Type A Group and will discuss the myth of advertising interactivity; the appalling language of brand babble; the massive fraud of display advertising; the fantasy of social media marketing; and the rise and fall of false advertising prophets. You may not agree with Bob, but you will surely be challenged and entertained. The premiere event of the week, don’t miss this engaging discussion as he to convince you that for the past decade the advertising and marketing industries have existed in a state of self-delusion.
**Friday, Sept. 27—Lobby Bar at Statler City (107 Delaware Ave, Buffalo)
**Two-for-one drink specials from 5 to 7 p.m.
**Free for attendees
