Buffalo Unscripted moves a city

blog by S.J. Velasquez • October 22, 2011 @ 10:29am
I arrived at Market Arcade Theatre a good hour and a half before the 7:30 p.m. film start time, and the place was already buzzing with excitement and Buffalove. By 6:30 p.m., rumors of the event selling out were already surfacing among event-goers in theater’s lobby and on Twitter. As guests were allowed into the theater shortly after 7 p.m., the excitement mounted, the #BUFunscripted tweets got heavier and the fun began.
Jason Clement, one of the three primary members of the Buffalo Unscripted team, welcomed the full house to the film’s debut, telling audience members that, unlike the average movie-going experience, attendees were encouraged to use their cell phones to tweet about the film. This, he said, was all part of the interactive film-viewing atmosphere the team was going for. To add to this casual conversation vibe, the Buffalo Unscripted team invited Buffalonians to introduce each of the film’s seven segments. I was honored to be among the locals asked to speak briefly on a film topic—so thanks, #BUFunscripted crew, for making me feel like a local celeb, even if for just three minutes!
Anyway, with the film in full swing, viewers really did engage online and in person. Audible cheers and boos—mostly cheers—filled the theater, and the #BUFunscripted hashtag blew up the local Twitter scene. Here are a few of my favorite tweets from the night:
