Buffalo’s antipodal point

blog by S.J. Velasquez • May 07, 2012 @ 11:26am
Contrary to the popular children’s joke, you wouldn’t end up in China if you dug a hole straight through the Earth.
Buzzfeed—a favorite time-waster site of mine—recently brought to my attention Antipodemap.com, a website that shows how to determine a city’s antipodal point, or the point on the opposite side of the Earth.
Unfortunately for Buffalonians, we’d—hypothetically—end up in the Indian ocean, just south-west of Australia. That is, if we could make it through the planet’s magma center.
