Chop your own Christmas tree

Celebrate the season and display your raw machismo in one swoop this December by chopping down your very own Christmas tree.

A handful of tree farms around Buffalo offer locals an opportunity to select and chop their own trees. Unlike the pop-up retail stands where pre-chopped trees are displayed on wooden stands and sold, chop-your-own trees are fresh as can be.

Here’s a list of local farms, courtesy of ChristmasTreeMap.com and the Evergreen 2012 Buyers Guide, that allow buyers to cut down their own trees:

Arboretum on Blue Hill
981 Jamison Road, Elma
652-4206

Jurek Trees
6600 Strickler Road, Clarence 14031
and
11370 Hunts Corners Road, Akron 14001
(716)689-8833

Hills Christmas Tree Farm
13214 Belscher Road, Springville, 14141
592-5096

Highlander Forest
11730 Warner Gulf Road, East Concord, 14055
496-8845

Country Pine Farm
10855 Partridge Road, Holland, 14080
537-2927

Roth’s Hillside Tree and Produce Farm
182 N. Main Street, Holland 14080
537-9398

Kathie and Jerry’s Christmas Trees
1731 Gowans Road, Angola
549-5603

For those who opt to buy real but don’t want to do their own cutting, be sure to check for freshness. The Buffalo News offers these tips to tree-buyers who need a little guidance.
