Kicking off an impressive Distinguished Speaker Series, David Brooks will be speaking at Alumni Arena at the University at Buffalo this evening.

The talk will begin at 8 p.m.

According to UB,

David Brooks is an OpEd columnist with The New York Times. Brooks has worked at The Weekly Standard, joining the magazine at its inception and serving as senior editor. He has been a contributing editor at Newsweek and the Atlantic Monthly. He worked at The Wall Street Journal for nine years in a range of positions, including op-ed editor.

He has written for The New Yorker, The New York Times Magazine, Forbes, The Washington Post and many other periodicals.

Brooks is a keen observer of the American way of life and a penetrating analyst of present-day politics and foreign affairs. He is a commentator on “PBS NewsHour” and NPR’s “All Things Considered.” Brooks presents the spirit of our times with humor, insight and quiet passion.

The author of three books, “Bobos in Paradise: The New Upper Class and How They Got There” and “On Paradise Drive: How We Live Now (And Always Have) in the Future Tense” both deal with what he calls “cosmic sociology”—descriptions of how we live and “the water we swim in.” His most recent book, “The Social Animal: The Hidden Sources of Love, Character and Achievement,” takes a look at how neuroscience and sociology are an important factor in politics and American society.
