Golden Griffs indeed: Canisius names 2010-11 hockey award winners

GoGriffs.com announced that the Canisius College hockey team recognized its top players during the 2010-11 season on Monday, naming its award winners for the campaign.

The Golden Griffins went 13-19-6 during the 2010-11 season.


Team MVP: Senior Cory Conacher.  This was Conacher’s second straight team MVP.  From GoGriffs.com: “A second-team All-Atlantic Hockey selection, Conacher led Canisius with 42 points, 23 goals, 19 assists and eight power-play tallies during the 2010-11 campaign. The Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award All-America First Team honoree ranked 12th nationally with 0.62 goals per game, while his 23 scores are the most in the school’s record book… He set 12 career, single-season and single-game records in his four seasons, finishing his tenure with career marks in points (147), goals (62) and game-winning tallies (12).”

Rookie of the Year: Ben Danford led all defensemen with 26 points on two goals and 24 assists. GoGriffs.com reports that Danford’s 24 assists are the most by any defender in the program’s history, while his 26 points rank first among rookie blueliners.

Most Improved Award: Freshman Taylor Law.  Law recorded 11 points, seven goals and four assists. 

Top Chapman Memorial Award (Unsung Hero): Senior defenseman / Team captain Phil Rauch.

Dr. David B. Dietz Award (Dedication to athletics and academics): Tonawanda’s own Scott Moser.

Community Outreach Award: Chris Forsman

Hasek’s Heroes Award: Preston Shupe
