According to The Buffalo News’ Rodney McKissic, Niagara Purple Eagles power forward Kashief Edwards has surprisingly decided to leave school for his fifth and final season of eligibility.

Fortunately for Kashief, his choice is made easier by the fact that the NCAA won’t force him to sit out a year.  Because he expects to graduate with an undergraduate degree in sociology this summer, transfer rules state that a college graduate can leave his current school to play elsewhere immediately.

Edwards’ wish to play as a wing fueled his decision to move on from Joe Mihalich’s 9-23 squad.  With the backcourt stocked with promise and serious dearth in the frontcourt, Edwards was expected to continue at power forward or even center at times.  With the departure of long-time teammate Anthony Nelson due to graduation, there were few reasons left for Edwards to persevere with a rebuilding squad.

The Niagara forward averaged a career-high 12.4 points per game last season and led the team in rebounding with 6.6 per contest.  Best of luck to Kashief Edwards in his next stop.
