Anderson Cooper: pussy willow prince - VIDEO

blog by Kathryn Przybyla • April 12, 2012 @ 9:26am
Buffalo, we now have our very own pussy willow prince.
After quite the backlash from his giggle-fit on AC360 Tuesday night, CNN anchor Anderson Cooper has made-up with the Western New York community.
Cooper created such a buzz with his comments on Buffalo’s celebration on Dyngus Day, that the city responded in full force, equipped with Polish sausage.
To clear the air, Cooper invited Dyngus Day organizer Eddy Dobosiewicz on AC360 to formally apologize. He even tweeted about it again, to give viewers a heads up.

Dobosiewicz responded with,
Although you have upset many people here in Western New York and throughout the land, we accept your apology, Mr. Cooper, graciously. We understand that Dyngus Day and the ritual is a little quirky, and the things that are associated with it are ridiculous. We don’t make any bones about that.
We are very very aware that chasing someone around with a pussy willow branch is not a normal thing to do, that it is kind of silly. Squirting each other with water is just as silly. But its much more than that. It’s an ancient ritual that Buffalonians have adopted as their own.
In an even greater effort to “extend the pussy willow branch,” Dobosiewicz bestowed the great honor of inviting Cooper to Dyngus Day 2013 and crowning him the very first “pussy willow prince.” Cooper laughed and was honored for title.
I would love to be the pussy willow prince, and I don’t think I’ve ever said that before. But I would love that. I don’t want to promise, because the news schedule changes. But as the date approaches, let’s talk this time next year and I will make every effort to come and celebrate Dyngus Day. It would be great.
Now that things are good between CNN’s “silver fox” and the Dyngus Day community, it didn’t take long for the rest of the world to join in on the Dyngus fun. Buzzfeed published a pretty humorous video of Cooper’s giggle-fit, with audio from Christian Bale’s breakdown on the set of “Terminator Salvation” in 2009.
This video has some serious foul-language, but is pretty hysterical placed over the Cooper “Ridiculist” segment. Be sure to check it out: Christian Bale Directs An Anderson Cooper 360 Segment.
