News Neediest Fund begins today

blog by S.J. Velasquez  •

The holiday spirit hit The Buffalo News this morning as Warren Colville, president of The News, announced the start of this year’s News Neediest Fund.

The 31st annual charity program’s kickoff was celebrated with a tree lighting, caroling by Houghton Academy’s chorus and a special appearance by ballerinas from the Neglia Ballet.

United Way of Buffalo and Erie County president Michael Weiner joined Colville in ringing in another season of charitable giving. Last year’s fund benefitted more than 12,000 families and 14,000 children in the area, distributing more than $700,000 in toys and food.
