This just in: there’s going to be a rally as part of the effort to stave off the demolition of the Bethlehem Steel North Administration Building tonight (Monday) at 6 p.m.outside Lackawanna City Hall (714 Ridge Road, Lackawanna). The demonstration will be followed by the City Council meeting at 6:30 p.m. I am sure they are just going to be thrilled by all of the attention. “Former employees, local residents and other supporters” are asked to attend the meeting, according to an email sent by organizer Dana Saylor-Furman late this afternoon.

“The rally will serve to oppose demolition of the historic structure, which may begin tomorrow (initial asbestos work seems to already have started),” Saylor-Furman writes. “Attendees seek to remind the City, the owners of Gateway Trade, and the public of the importance of this vestige of our cultural heritage and that to demolish it would signify a loss of potential economic development.”

A Save the Bethlehem Steel Administration Building page has been created on Facebook if you want more info on the preservation effort.
