Some days are better than others: Special days at the Erie County Fair

blog by Erin Daetsch • August 07, 2012 @ 9:56am
Here are the special theme days for the 2012 Erie County Fair:
Wednesday, August 8: Channel 2 Opening Day

The Erie County Fair is kicking off in style. With admission only $2 for adults and free for kids under 12, it would be a poor financial decision not to go. Gates open at 2 p.m.
Thursday, August 9: Channel 4 Day

Join Channel 4 on day 2 of the Fair and pay only $4 for admission and $4 for parking. As always kids 12 and under are free. Again, a fiscally prudent day at the Fair box office is a good day at the Fair.
Friday, August 10: Firefighters Day

Spend the day honoring our firefighters. There will a memorial service, Fireman of the Year award ceremony and, as always, a parade. New this year is the Firetruck Pull, where firefighters will test their strength to benefit the Special Olympics of New York.
Saturday, August 11: WNY Mom Day

It is the Fair’s version of Mother’s Day. Moms can stop by the Channel 2 booth to receive a WNY Moms sticker. If you are spotted wearing your sticker by the prize patrol, you could walk away with one of many fabulous prizes.
Sunday, August 12: Veterans Day

Admission is free for all veterans, auxiliary members and military spouses with proper identification. There will be a Veterans Recgonition Ceremony at 11 a.m., followed by the veterans parade at 1 p.m..
Sunday, August 12: Biker Day

Attention bikers—ride to the Fair the only way you know how and receive discounted admission and parking. Then, finish off the day at the Ted Nugent Concert with Laura Wilde in the Buffalo.com Grandstand.
Monday, August 13: Bicentennial Day

Celebrate Hamburg’s 200th birthday! Senior citizen admission is $3.50 and adults are $5.00 when you purchase your tickets at Pegasus Family Restaurant, Waterstone Grill, Hilbert College (visit the admissions office in Franciscan Hall or in the Office of Adult and Graduate Studies in Paczesny Hall), Tractor Supply on Southwestern, West Herr Chevy or West Herr Ford. Look for the Bicentennial Day float in the Wild About the Fair daily parade and Bicentennial Day puzzle giveaways.
Saturday, August 18: NY Lottery Day

Wouldn’t it be great if you won the lottery? Maybe you will finally hit it big at the Fair! Be one of the first 200 guests (over age 18) to enter the NY Lottery Building and receive a Free Play Coupon. Then loan me $20. Hey, I’m an intern.
